Reigning African champions, the Super Eagles of
Nigeria will today take on
the Flames of Malawi in the last round of group
F play. The Nigerians only need a draw to
advance to the playoff round of the African zone
of World Cup qualifying, whilst the Malawians
need to do the unthinkable-beat Nigeria in
Nigerian soil to achieve the same objective.
The Eagles are expected to be on the attack,
while the Flames wouldn't surprise football fans
by playing on the counter, or "parking the bus".

Roberto Martinez wants new contract for Manchester United target Baines
After rejecting a bid from the Red Devils for the
29-year-old over the summer, the Everton manager
is now hoping to secure his star left-back's long-
term future at Goodison Park
Everton boss Roberto Martinez expects the club to
open up contract negotiations with Leighton Baines
following the closure of the transfer window.
The left-back was a target for former boss David
Moyes at Manchester United over the summer but,
unlike team-mate Marouane Fellaini, he remains at
Goodison Park after the club rejected all overtures.
With the window now closed until January, his
boss is hoping to tie up the defender's future
beyond the two years that currently remain on his
contract.
"When the window is open I think it's the wrong
time to speak about those things and so we hadn't
discussed it," Martinez told reporters.
"But, now the window is closed, we are going to
look into all the players in the squad and see
where their contracts are up to. Then, individually,
we will look to address that.
"It would just have created more instability if we
had done that while the window was open."
Everton rejected a "derisory and insulting" double
bid of £28 million for Baines and Fellaini in August,
with the latter eventually moving to Old Trafford for
£27.5 million on deadline day.
'I play football like I play chess' - Mkhitaryan
The 24-year-old has likened his style of play to
the famous board game, highlighting his measured
approach on the pitch
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan
has revealed he plays football in the same way he
treats a game of chess.
The Armenia international sealed a club record
€27.5 million move to Signal Iduna Park in the
summer, and the former Shakhtar Donetsk ace
says he is always thinking several steps in front of
his opponent.
"I play football like chess," he told reporters. "You
have to think a lot and anticipate what could
happen after you make your move.
"If you make a mistake, your opponent can punish
and you end up losing the game.
"The most dangerous area is the centre, which has
to be either attacked or defended in football and
it's the same in chess."
The 24-year-old, who netted twice in last week's
2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, went on to
reveal he has harboured an affection for the
German giants long before joining up with Jurgen
Klopp's men.
"I always knew the players, the coaches and the
stadium. I already followed the team when players
like [Tomas] Rosicky, [Jan] Koller and [Marcio]
Amoroso were here.
"This has always been a really interesting club and
there is a photo of me as a child wearing a BVB
shirt."
Mkhitaryan is currently on international duty ahead
of Friday's meeting with the Czech Republic.
Nani pens five-year Manchester United contract
Manchester United have announced that
Portuguese winger Nani has signed a new five-year
contract with the club.
Shaqiri: Everybody wants to beat treble- winning Bayern
The Switzerland international believes no team will
fear the reigning German champions, while praising
Pep Guardiola's personal approach
Xherdan Shaqiri believes Bayern Munich 's
successful 2012-13 campaign will only serve as
motivation for their rivals to attempt to beat the
Bavarians.
Bayern became the first German team in history to
win the treble last term, but Shaqiri does not think
their dominance will frighten any of the big teams
in Europe.
"Not a single big team out there fears another
team, so they will not fear Bayern either," Shaqiri
was quoted as saying by Bild .
"There's no room for fear in the minds of Europe's
best players. Every great player bans fear from his
mind.
"Nobody goes onto the pitch thinking 'Oh no, we're
playing against Bayern'. It's simply not like that. If
anything, they will be even more motivated to beat
the treble winners."
The Switzerland international then went on to
discuss his relationship with new coach Pep
Guardiola and hailed the Spaniard's approach.
"Pep knows exactly how to reach his players and
that's a great thing. He transmits to us that he
really believes in us and that's crucial.
"He's an incredible motivator and he's a lot of fun.
I have little doubt that we will have a great time
with him."
Carrick welcomes Fellaini competition at Manchester United
The England international is happy to see the
£25.7 million Belgian join the Red Devils, seeing
the move only as an incentive to work harder to
retain his first-team place
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick
insists that he is not threatened by Marouane
Fellaini's £27.5 million move to Old Trafford from
Everton.
The 32-year-old could face direct competition for
his first-team spot from the versatile Belgium
international, who was reunited with former boss
David Moyes on deadline day, but believes that the
challenge will only serve to help him improve.
"The more top-quality players you have in your
squad, whether it's in my position or not, the better
it is for the team," Carrick told the press.
"It's not a case of me thinking: 'I might not be in
the team', I will still have to play well to be in it
regardless."
Carrick started in 34 of United's 38 Premier
League games last season as Sir Alex Ferguson
guided the club to the title before retiring in what
the former West Ham and Tottenham man dubbed
the "best" campaign of his career.
But the England international refuses to see
Fellaini's arrival as any sort of indication that his
time in the first team might be coming towards its
end.
"I can't deny last season probably was my best
one," he added.
"There's no reason why I would be thinking of
packing up any time soon.
"You never know what's around the corner but I
wouldn't say it was going to be my last one."
'Don't blame Mourinho for my Madrid form' - Kaka
The 31-year-old has refuted suggestions that the
Portuguese is culpable for his disappointing
displays throughout his four-year stay with los
Blancos
Kaka has denied claims that former coach Jose
Mourinho is to blame for his lack of success at
Real Madrid after he left the club on transfer
deadline day.
The former Ballon d'Or winner struggled to justify
his €65 million price tag throughout an indifferent
four-year spell with the Spanish giants and left los
Blancos on a free transfer to sign a two-year deal
with old club AC Milan on Monday.
But the former Brazil ace has denied suggestions
that Mourinho's coaching was a contributing factor
in his loss of form at the Santiago Bernabeu.
"It wasn’t Jose Mourinho’s fault that I left Real
Madrid. It wasn’t because of him – he actually
made me stronger," the 31-year-old reporters at a
told a press conference.
"I looked to give my best for him in these years,
making sure I was always at his disposal.
Unfortunately I wasn’t always fit and that didn’t
help.
"It was a good personal experience for me in
Madrid, less so professionally. But it was a spell
which helped me to grow, I matured a lot.
"I don’t regret the years in the Real shirt, but,
seeing how things went, I did lose a little desire to
play. The decision to leave was taken after
speaking with Carlo Ancelotti.
"I didn’t play with continuity, partly because of the
injuries, partly because of the competition for
places.
The Brazilian went on to claim he was relishing the
prospect of linking up with striker Mario Balotelli
for the Rossoneri .
"Mario Balotelli and I can work well together.
Mario is doing some great things here, as he has
for all the teams he has played for," he added.
"But there is not just Mario, we have Alessandro
Matri, Robinho, Giampaolo Pazzini, Stephan El
Shaarawy. They are all great players.
"I need to find some consistency again, but I’m
physically ready to play."
22 super eagles in camp for the Malawi match
The senior national team's players have all landed
for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Malawi
with the exception of Portugal based midfielder
John Ogu
John Ogu, who plays his club football in Portugal
for Academica de Coimbra is the only Super Eagle
that is yet to hit Nigeria for Saturday’s 2014 World
Cup qualifier against Malawi's.
Goal findings revealed that the player experienced
flight hitches from Portugal but will arrive on
Thursday.
18 Eagles' players defied the rain to train on
Wednesday evening in the official second training
session of the team.
They were the three goalkeepers and 15 outfield
players.
Three more players: Victor Moses, Shola Ameobi
and Elderson Echiejile arrived around 6pm on
Wednesday after their flight was initially redirected
to Port Harcourt because of bad weather.
They didn't participate in the team's evening
training but were sighted at the Transcorp Hotel
base of the team during the evening meal.
But AC Brescia of Italy's Nnamdi Oduamadi
couldn't arrive Calabar on Wednesday despite
arriving the country from his base early enough to
hit camp.
Goal was told that Oduamadi actually boarded a
flight coming to Calabar on Wednesday but the
plane could not land because of bad weather. The
player and some top officials of the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) Goal was told were taken
to Port Harcourt where they passed the night.
They will all arrive Calabar on Thursday morning.

Chelsea stay would have damaged my carrier- Victor Moses
Victor Moses airs out that his carrier would have been damaged if he had remained in Chelsea.
Chelsea new coach, Jose mourinho has being benching him on so many matches since he ventured into the Chelsea from realmadrid.
Ribery eyes ballon d'Or.
The 30-year-old recently won Uefa's Best Player in Europe award and now wants to dethrone Lionel
Messi and claim another individual trophy
Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is confident he can win the Ballon d'Or ahead of Lionel Messi and
Cristiano Ronaldo .
The 30-year-old was a key player in Bayern's treble-winning success last term and won Uefa's Best
Player in Europe award last week.
And he has now targeted Lionel Messi's Ballon d'Or crown and insists he would me more than worthy of
landing the prize.
"Of course I believe in it. Last year I did what had to be done on the pitch and off it," he told reporters,
while on international duty for France.
"I was very professional, I had a great time with my team and we really enjoyed it.
"The Super Cup did a lot of good for the club. There's not much time left [before the award is voted on]. I
have to continue without asking myself too many questions and still try to enjoy myself.
"It's always flattering, and particularly with this kind of trophy. To be elected the best player ahead of
Messi and Ronaldo, that's amazing. It's true that I'm really enjoying myself right now. This award is a
plus for me in a sporting sense, it gives me confidence.
"Perhaps it puts more pressure on me, but I manage to handle that sort of situation well. I mustn't get
carried away. It's up to me to keep working, enjoy myself, and help my team, be it Bayern or France."
Bayern president Uli Hoeness has thrown his weight of support behind Ribery landing a second major
individual award and believes there are few players capable of challenging him.
"Who else but him should win it? I doubt there is anyone in South America who has a better chance,"
Hoeness told Bild .
Ribery scored 11 goals and made 18 assists in all competitions last season as Bayern won the
Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.

Osasuna sacks coach
The 52-year-old has lost his job after two-and-a-
half years in charge of los Rojillos, with the club
losing their first three league fixtures and sitting at
the foot of the table
Osasuna have sacked coach Jose Luis Mendilibar
after making a winless start to the new Liga
season, with former Almeria boss Javi Gracia
appointed as his successor.
52-year-old Mendilibar took charge in February
2011 following the dismissal of Jose Antonio
Camacho and narrowly saved the club from
relegation last season.
But three defeats in a row at the start of this term
have left los Rojillos rock bottom of the Spanish
top flight and seen Mendilibar pay the ultimate
price.
Osasuna president Miguel Archanco announced the
decision on Tuesday: "We will find a young coach
who is committed to using young players."
The club, who are currently in their 14th
consecutive season in La Liga, have now
announced 43-year-old coach Gracia as the new
manager of the Pamplona outfit, and he has signed
a two-year deal with Osasuna.

MAN UNITED SIGNS 17YRS OLD SAIDY JANKO BEFORE DEADLINE
The Red Devils have concluded a deal for the 17-
year-old who becomes the third player to join the
club following the arrivals of Guillermo Varela and
Marouane Fellaini
Manchester United have completed a move for 17-
year-old right-back Saidy Janko from FC Zurich.
The Red Devils have confirmed that the deal for the
Switzerland-born versatile right-sided player was
concluded before the transfer window closed on
Monday for an undisclosed fee.
Janko becomes the third player to arrive at the
club during the summer following the arrival of
talented young defender Guillermo Varela, and
Marouane Fellaini who joined from Everton for
£27.5 million.
The club revealed that Janko impressed Reds
representatives earlier in the year during the Blue
Stars Tournament where he played against United.
He also took part in a trial for the club and can
play in a number of different positions but is most
likely to be used as a full-back when he joins up
with United’s Under-18 squad.
The Premier League champions failed to land two
other targets on the final day of the transfer
window with Ander Herrera and Fabio Coentrao
both remaining in La Liga with Athletic Bilbao and
Real Madrid respectively.
WHY SUNDAY MBA'S MOVE TO EUROPE WAS STALLED
Goal can authoritatively reveal that it was sheer
greed on the part of Nigerian club officials that
cost Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Mba the
opportunity of kick-starting his professional
football career in France with modest French Ligue
2 club CA Bastia in a two-year-deal said to be
worth around €1 million.
The fans of Bastia had thronged out to welcome
the Africa Cup of Nations hero to their city when he
arrived last week. They screamed his name every
time he was seen through the window of his hotel
room: “We love Sunday Mba” and “Welcome to
Bastia Sunday Mba, we love you,” they shouted. He
had begun to feel at home.
But the hope of having the 25-year-old play for
their darling club ebbed near European transfer
deadline day when the midfielder left France when
he realised that forces beyond him would not allow
him make progress.
Mba jetted back to the country on Monday and
moved to the Metropolitan Hotel Camp of the Super
Eagles in Calabar on Tuesday after his Bastia deal
was thrown to the trash can by the Warri Wolves
officials and other two prominent partners involved
in the deal.
Goal discovered from a prominent contact who was
privy to the contract and it was discovered that the
sharing of the €150,000 involved as transfer fee
was the major cause of the deal not materializing
in the first place.
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi allegedly
demanded for €50,000 from the deal which Warri
Wolves boss Amaju Pinnick perceived was too
much and believed that the remaining €100,000
won’t be enough for him and Emmanuel Ibru, who
was also involved in the sale of the player, to
share.
Ibru was involved in the controversial transfer of
late Super Eagles defender Olubayo Adefemi before
he joined Skoda Xanthi.
They all disagreed on Mba putting pen to paper for
Bastia unless the transfer fee was jacked up to at
least €600,000 so that they could have enough to
go share.
The player, though not happy, couldn’t help the
situation. According to a close friend of his, Mba
sobbed uncontrollably in his hotel in France
because he had already started feeling at home in
Bastia as a result of love and affection shown to
him by Bastia fans.
Goal can also authoritatively reveal the terms of
agreement Mba could have signed with Bastia as
follows:
If Bastia gains promotion to Ligue 1, they have the
right to buy Sunday Mba at a preferential price of
€800,000 minus the amount they have already paid
while a bonus of €100,000 will be given to Warri
Wolves, Mba’s club.
Also a partnership deal of 2 years will be agreed
between the two clubs (Bastia and Warri Wolves)
to organize friendly games and trials at Bastia for
the best players of Warri Wolves. This agreement
will work at the moment they maintain their place
in the league or get promoted and the contract can
be renewed every 2 years.
The player also cannot be sold for less than
€800,000. In the case where he is sold on to
another club, Warri Wolves would be given 50 per
cent of the fees.
In case the player is injured for more than 4
months, Bastia have the right to release him and
have to give him back to Warri Wolves without
asking for their money back and don't have to pay
the rest of the money due.
In case CA Bastia get relegated, Sunday Mba will
go back to Warri Wolves as being specified in the
contract that Mba couldn’t sign.
With the failure of Mba to move to Europe this
summer, it is yet to be seen how this would affect
the career of the player who helped Nigeria to
victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Real Madrid over paid for Garreth bale- van Der vaart
Former Tottenham
midfielder Rafael van
der Vaart believes
Real Madrid overpaid
by spending 100
million euros on
Gareth Bale.
Van der Vaart spent
two years at Madrid
as well, but he was in
in and out of the
starting XI, particularly
in his final season,
and believes Bale will
have to adjust to the
heightened expectations. The current Hamburg
playmaker played alongside the Welshman for
Tottenham between 2010-2012 but doesn't feel
the pricetag reflects his ability.
"One hundred million euros is a bit much," van der
Vaart told NOS . "You should ask yourself if a
player is worth that amount at all. I've played with
him, but I couldn't see that he was worth 100
million back then. He did develop quite good, but
still he has to prove his worth at Real.
"I know Bale as a very nice and sweet guy so I
think he would fit best in England. A club like Real
Madrid is different and there is a lot of pressure
over there. But maybe he can surprise everybody
at Real."
Van der Vaart also believes Bale is below the level
of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but added
that he hopes the 24-year-old succeeds in the
Spanish capital.
"You can't compare him with Messi and Ronaldo,
because they're from another level," van der Vaart
said. "If you make so many goals for so many
years and win all these prizes they have won, it's
not fair to compare anybody else with those guys.
"I've been in his situation, only Real paid a little
less money for me back then. I would like to wish
him all the best at Real Madrid, because Gareth is
a great lad."
Assou ekotto joins Qpr on a loan deal
The defender, who joined Spurs from Lens in 2006,
joins the highly rated young midfielder in reuniting
with former boss Harry Redknapp in the
Championship on deadline day.
Tottenham left back
Benoit Assou-Ekotto
and midfielder Tom
Carroll have both
moved on loan QPR .
The Cameroon
international has fallen
out of favor under
Spurs boss Andre
Villas-Boas and had
yet to feature for the
north Londoners this
season.
Danny Rose, who returned from a successful loan
spell at Sunderland last season, is now first choice
at White Hart Lane, while Jan Vertonghen and Kyle
Naughton were often preferred to Assou-Ekotto
last term.
The 29-year-old joins the highly rated midfielder
in droping down a division, with former Tottenham
boss Harry Redknapp having lured them to Loftus
Road on a season-long loan.
Assou-Ekotto, who enjoyed cult status at White
Hart Lane, made 155 Premier League appearances
for Tottenham, scoring four times and proving
eight assists.
"I am delighted to come here and really excited,"
Carroll told QPR's official website. "Harry was a
big factor for me because of how he likes the
game to be played.
"I've seen what Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend
got from their loans at QPR and I hope I can enjoy
similar success."
Lukaku on a one year loan deal to Everton with three others
Everton made a late
run in the transfer
market, confirming the
signings of three
players as the window
came to a close.
The club confirmed
the signing of three
players, James
McCarthy, Romelu
Lukaku and Gareth
Barry, who all joined the club in the final minutes
of the summer window on Monday.
Former Wigan star McCarthy joined on a long-
term deal from 13 million pounds, while Chelsea
striker Lukaku and Manchester City midfielder
Barry have both joined the club on season-long
loan deals. For Lukaku, it marks the second
consecutive season that he leaves on loan from
Chelsea to a Premier League club. He tallied 17
goals with West Brom last season.
The inbound transfers helps lessen the blow of
losing two players, as Everton saw Marouane
Fellaini make a big-money move to Manchester
United and Victor Anichebe bolted to West Brom.
The two outbound transfers net the club upwards
of 30 million pounds.
MANCHESTER UNITED SUCCEEDS IN SIGNING FELLANI
Manchester United
has completed the
signing of Everton
midfielder Marouane
Fellaini on a long-
term deal, the Toffees
confirmed upon the
close of the summer
transfer window.
The Belgian
international heads to
Old Trafford for a 27.5
million pound fee,
according to Everton, and he will be reunited with
former manager David Moyes, under whom he
starred at Goodison Park.
Fellaini is Moyes' first major transfer signing, and
he reportedly submitted a transfer request Monday
to waive any loyalty-bonus payment in order to
facilitate the move, and he provides a significant
boost to Manchester United's aerial game and
midfield.
Fellaini is one of a few Belgian internationals who
was on the move Monday, with Romelu Lukaku
joining Fellaini's former side Everton on loan from
Chelsea for the season and defender Toby
Alderweireld leaving Ajax for Atletico Madrid.
United had also hoped to sign Leighton Baines
from Moyes's former club, but the Toffees
rebuffed those advances throughout the summer,
with the reigning Premier League champion never
meeting the 20 million pound valuation of the left
back.
The Red Devils missed out on another midfield
target, Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera, as the club
did not meet his release clause.

Everton reject £15m Manchester United bid for Leighton Baines
Manchester United have made a £15m bid
for Everton's Leighton Baines but the club
have rejected the offer, with the chairman,
Bill Kenwright, determined the full-back will
not be sold.
The move marks the first time United have
divided their interest in Baines and his team-
mate Marouane Fellaini.
Previously the manager, David Moyes, has
made joint offers for the left-back and
midfielder, with the most recent of these a
£36m valuation that was rejected.
While Baines may remain at Everton the
Belgian FA tweeted that Fellaini did not train
on Monday and would be joining up with the
national team later. Although there was no
explanation why, it may be that Fellaini and
his representatives were trying to close the
deal with United.
LIVERPOOL TO SIGN LIVERPOOL FORWARD BORINI ON LOAN
The Italy international forward is set to team up
with compatriot Paolo Di Canio at the Stadium of
Light after falling down Brendan Rodgers' pecking
order at Anfield
By Wayne Veysey
Fabio Borini is set to join Sunderland on a loan
after Liverpool confirm the capture of Victor Moses ,
Goal understands.
Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers will allow the
Italian forward to leave when the deal to sign
Moses on loan from Chelsea is completed.
Moses’ arrival will push Borini down the pecking
order and the Italian is likely to get more
opportunities at Sunderland under his countryman
Paolo Di Canio.
The 22-year-old Italy international had an injury-
plagued debut campaign at Anfield after moving
from Roma in the summer of 2012 and has failed
to establish in the first team.
Moses was in the stands at Anfield on Sunday to
watch Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0 as the
Merseysiders closed in on completing his loan
from Stamford Bridge.

BALE- RONALDO IS THE MAJOR FACTOR IN MADRID MOVE
The Wales international has nothing but praise for
the prolific attacker and has stressed that his hefty
price tag will not affect him
Gareth Bale has stated that the presence of
Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid was one of the
reasons why he joined the Liga giants and added
that he's looking forward to playing alongside the
Portugal star.
The 24-year-old signed a six-year deal with the
Blancos on Monday to complete his €100 million
move from Tottenham and he's keen to team up
with the former Manchester United star.
"For me Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the
world," Bale said at a press conference. "His
presence played a big part in my decision to join
Madrid. It will be an honour to play alongside him.
"What about penalties and free-kicks? Ronaldo is
the boss here at Madrid. Let's see what he says.
"I don't need to help Ronaldo to be the best in the
world - he has already shown it."
The Welshman then went on to stress that his
hefty price-tag does not put any extra pressure on
him and added that he's determined to help Madrid
win silverware.
"The transfer fee is not something that affects me.
It's something between Madrid and Spurs. It only
brings extra pressure if I want it to.
"The biggest pressure here is to help Madrid win
trophies. I want to win silverware here and help the
club win the Champions League."
Bale could make his official Madrid debut away
against Villarreal on September 13 after the
international break.
UNITED REALLY MISSED ROONEY ON THE CLASH WITH LIVERPOOL - MOYES
Manchester United manager David Moyes
admitted Wayne Rooney would have made a
difference to his side's performance after
they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Liverpool.
The Merseyside outfit maintained their 100
per cent start to the campaign thanks to
another match-winning goal from Daniel
Sturridge as United failed to score in
successive Premier League games for the
first time since 2007.
And Moyes accepted Rooney's absence with
a cut head - a problem that is likely to keep
him out for three weeks - was a contributing
factor.
"Wayne would have made a difference today,"
said Moyes.
"We maybe lacked something different at
times.
"But we didn't have him because of the
injury."
Rooney suffered a severe cut to the head
following an accidental collision with Phil
Jones in training on Saturday.
Without the England forward - who will now
miss his country's crucial World Cup
qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine -
United failed to exert any significant pressure
on Liverpool.
Robin van Persie cut a particularly frustrated
figure as Moyes' inability to win at Anfield
stretched to 13 games, 12 of which are a
legacy of his time at Everton.
Yet the Scot remained remarkably upbeat
afterwards.

GUNNERS AGREE OZIL'S DEAL
Arsenal have agreed a deal with Real Madrid
to sign Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil, Press
Association Sport understands.
The 24-year-old is now set to discuss
personal terms over the proposed transfer,
believed to be a club-record bid of 50million
euros (£42.2m), and then look to complete a
medical ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline.
Before Sunday's 1-0 win over big-spending
Tottenham, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had
seen moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez
and Yohan Cabaye all fail to come off, but it
would now appear the Emirates Stadium club
are close to finally landing a big-name
signing.
Wenger's only summer purchases so far had
been the free transfers of Yaya Sanogo and
Mathieu Flamini.
However, the Arsenal manager was confident
the 100million euro (£85.3m) switch of
Gareth Bale to Real Madrid would set in
place a "domino" effect, and thus allow the
likes of 24-year-old Germany international
Ozil to come onto the market at the 11th
hour.
Arsenal - who have been linked with Ozil's
Real Madrid team-mates Karim Benzema and
Angel di Maria and a loan move for Chelsea
striker Demba Ba - are also expected to
bring in some goalkeeping cover, with a loan
deal for Palermo stopper Emiliano Viviano.
Although Wenger may be sitting on a £70m
warchest, he insists the club will not be held
to ransom as the last-gasp shopping dash
begins.
''I am not against spending. I am ready to
pay what we can afford, even if it is a bit
over the market (value) and as long as it is
not crazy,'' he said.
Arsenal have responded well since they lost
the opening Premier League game at home to
Aston Villa, winning at Fulham and also
securing a place in the group stages of the
Champions League by beating Fenerbahce
both at home and away.
However, the need for getting in extra bodies
was highlighted by the inclusion of
youngsters Serge Gnabry and Gedion
Zelalem, only 16, on the bench after
Arsenal's first-team squad had been
decimated by injuries to key men like Lukas
Podolski, Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-
Chamberlain.
Milan loan Petagna to Sampdoria
The Genoa-based club have confirmed they have
secured the services of the talented attacker on a
temporary basis
Sampdoria have announced the signing of striker
Andrea Petagna from AC Milan on a season-long
loan basis.
The 18-year-old, who came through the club's
youth system, made his professional debut for the
Rossoneri in a Champions League group match
against Zenit St Petersburg on December 4, 2012,
which his team lost 1-0.
He was included in the senior squad full-time at
the beginning of this campaign and played his first
Serie A match on August 24 against Hellas Verona,
where Massimilano Allegri's men were handed a
2-1 defeat.
Petagna could make his first appearance for his
new club in the derby against Genoa, which will be
taking place on September 15.
Sampdoria will have the option buy acquire 50 per
cent of the rights for the Italy Under-19
international in the future.
Victor Moses moves to Liverpool
Chelsea player victor Moses and Nigeria's football star is on his way to Liverpool dc on a long term loan.
BENZEMA'S MANAGER DISMISSES ARSENAL
The striker's agent dismissed suggestions of a
move away from the Bernabeu, with the Gunners
believed to be interested in the forward as well as
Angel Di Maria & Mesut Ozil
Karim Benzema's agent Karim Djaziri has again
insisted that the striker will not leave Real Madrid
to join Arsenal , and says he wants to stay the
Santiago Bernabeu.
The France international's representative had
previously insisted he was not interested in leaving
Los Blancos, after Goal had revealed the Gunners'
interest in the forward and in winger Angel Di
Maria.
"Nothing has changed," Djaziri told BBC Sport .
"Karim isn’t joining Arsenal or anybody else. He’s
staying at Real Madrid.
"In any case, he’s joined up with the France team
today, and I doubt they’d even allow him to leave
to discuss a move."
Arsenal are in advanced talks over a €47 million
move for Mesut Ozil , with Carlo Ancelotti's side
looking to raise money through player sales
following the acquisition of Gareth Bale.
And the former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain
manager had on Saturday hinted at problems with
Benzema's attitude.
"Today one thing was very clear. Benzema was
whistled a bit, while Di Maria was applauded by
whole stadium," Ancelotti told reporters.
"The fans look closely at the players. It's a very
clear sign for everyone that hard work is
applauded."
